As we near the halfway point of the NBA season, the Cleveland Cavaliers are playing .500 basketball. This is a far cry from the type of basketball people expected going into the year with so many new fresh faces. Lebron James and Kevin Love were the 2 flashy free agents expected to help them become instant contenders, right now they are barely in the playoff picture in a depleted Eastern conference. Now that Lebron James is back in the lineup, can he get these guys back in contention?
This week, James returns to lineup for the 1st time in a few games after being out with an injury. He has been relatively durable throughout his career, as this was the longest amount of time he is missed due to injury. In his 1st game back, James was sharp, but the team was not as they lost another game to the Phoenix Suns. They are now below .500 for the 1st time in a while, and people are starting to wonder what might happen if this team continues to slip.
James has stated that he has not been 100% so far this year, but this team should still be better than they are given the talent around him. Simply put, Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love are not the same efficient fantasy basketball players many people have become accustomed to. It is taking time for them to mesh, and it is something that people will be monitoring closely in the 2nd half of the regular season.
When he 1st went to Miami, James found out that it was a process when putting together a championship contender. Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade did not instantly mesh with James during that 1st season. With that being said, it is a little bit alarming that this team is really struggling. They even went as far as making a few roster changes prior to the NBA trade deadline. Ultimately, it is going to come down to whether or not James can step his game up now that he has had some time off. The pressure will be on him, even if he seems to be the most consistent piece on the team right now.
