Oklahoma City Thunder’s Russell Westbrook underwent surgery on a fracture in his right cheek Saturday. The MVP contender is expected to miss at least one game.
Westbrook was hurt in the final 5 seconds of the Thunder’s 115-112 loss to Portland on Friday. Westbrook scored 40 points to attribute to his third straight tipple-double when teammate Andre Roberson’s knee smashed into Westbrook’s face (see video below). The incident resulted in a notable imprint on the right side of his face.
The Thunder are already without last years league MVP Kevin Durant, who had a screw replaces in his repaired right foot last week, along with center Steven Adams who has sat out with a hand injury.
Westbrook has become the hottest player in the league. In the last month, he averaged 31.2 points, 10.2 assists and 9.1 43 rebounds leading the Thunder to a 9-3 record.
